Are L1 visa slots available in India right now?
Only the official appointment portal can confirm a bookable L1 or L2 date for your profile. Openings appear and disappear through the day, and what one applicant sees can differ from another's calendar depending on category, visa post and the number of people in the booking.
- Check your own calendar first. Log in to your official appointment account and look at the category that matches your petition route (individual L1 or blanket L). A date shown for another category, or for someone else's group size, does not confirm one for you.
- Check both appointment stages. In India, most applicants attend a biometrics (OFC/VAC) appointment and a separate consular interview. A biometric opening on its own does not mean an interview date is available.
- Use the official wait-time estimate for planning only. See the wait-times section below for what that number does and does not tell you.
- If you cannot keep checking, use call alerts or manual monitoring. We check the posts you choose and call when a date fits your case.

L1 visa appointment wait times in India
The Department of State publishes an estimated interview wait time for each US visa post. L1 falls under the petition-based temporary worker group (H, L, O, P, Q), so the L1 estimate for a post is the same figure H1B and O1 applicants see.
Where to find it
Use the official visa appointment wait-time tool, choose the Indian post you can attend, and read the petition-based temporary worker line. Compare New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata if you can travel.
What the number means
It is an estimate of how far out the next available interview was at the time it was calculated. It is not a list of open dates, and it can change quickly when new appointments are released.
Blanket and individual cases
The published figure does not separate blanket L from individual L1 cases, or principals from L2 families. Your own calendar is the only reliable view of the route and group size you need.
Planning around a transfer date
Leave time after the interview for administrative processing and passport return. Share the employer's intended start date when you ask for monitoring, so the search window is realistic.
L1 visa stamping and renewal in India
If you are in the United States on L1 and need a new visa stamp for travel, plan for a full appointment in India rather than a document drop-off.
- Interview waivers were narrowed in 2025. Following the Department of State's 2025 interview-waiver update, most L1 and L2 renewal applicants must attend an in-person interview. Check the current interview-waiver rules on the official portal before assuming you qualify.
- Book both stages. Stamping applicants usually need a biometrics appointment and a consular interview. Plan your travel so both fit before your return date.
- Pick posts you can actually reach. Include every city you could attend. More locations mean more chances of a usable date.
- L2 family members renewing at the same time need an opening with room for everyone attending together, or a plan for separate appointments.

L1 individual, blanket L and L2: what changes when booking?
Start with the route confirmed by your employer or immigration counsel. L1A/L1B classification and individual/blanket petition route describe different parts of the case.
L1 individual appointment
Have the approved petition reference available and use the matching application category. Keep the employer's transfer deadline separate from your preferred appointment date so there is room to plan for the interview and passport return.
Blanket L appointment
Confirm the blanket route before looking for dates. The Department of State lists Form I-129S among the interview documents for blanket L applicants. In India, blanket L interviews have historically been handled at the Chennai consulate, which is why many applicants search for Chennai blanket L slots. Check the current post-specific instructions with your employer; do not assume that every location or calendar shown for an individual case applies.
L2 with the L1 principal
Decide who needs to attend together and check the appointment confirmation for every applicant. Plan school dates, travel and passport availability for the family before choosing a date. Tell the monitoring team whether separate appointments would be acceptable.
L2 booking separately
If the principal is already in the United States, prepare the principal's case information and ask counsel which relationship and status documents the dependent should carry. Explain that this is an L2-only request when discussing monitoring, so it is not treated as a new L1 family booking.

A practical L1/L2 family scheduling checklist
- Identify the request: L1A or L1B, individual or blanket, L2 dependents, and a new booking or reschedule.
- Count the applicants: list who must attend together and who can travel later. Confirm each applicant's DS-160 and profile details.
- Confirm usable locations: check the current instructions for your route. For a Chennai search, record whether you need a VAC appointment, a consular interview or both; do the same for any other permitted post.
- Set a realistic window: note your current appointment, earliest travel date, employer deadline and family constraints. An appointment date is not a visa issuance date.
- Choose who will act: book yourself after a call alert, or agree the scope of manual booking assistance. Keep confirmation records for all applicants.
Already booked? Review the portal's rescheduling instructions before changing your appointment. Do not cancel an existing booking simply because someone has shared an unverified date.
